Effectively communicate my clients, colleagues and my community as a whole

Understand the types of communication,

Actively listening

Understand the importance of empathy in communication

Communicate with those who have differing cultural backgrounds

Understand the differing management styles and comprehend communication struggles

Have effective written communication skills

and how to apply all these outcomes in my professional environment as a speech pathologist.

Why is it important to learn about communication?

Communication is an essential part of life, it is how all human beings communicate with each other. It is important to learn about communication as it allows trust to bloom, a medium for better understanding between me as a professional and my client to occur which all collates together to complete one goal, my patient’s treatment objective.  The picture on the left shows a speech pathologist treating her client using the two types of communication, non-verbal and verbal communication, the way she is communicating with her client seems to be effective as her client is clearly engaged, as the trust between to client and professional is apparent.

Which is what I hope to achieve as a speech pathologist.
